Sunday 1 September 2024

final post of the day on Sunday!

So, all was going well and we got to Cocquelles early, hoping to get an earlier train - but it wasn't to be!

Two hour delay departing and we decided that after a long day we should bite the bullet so we have booked ourselves into an empty Premier Inn in Kent where the attached pub closed at 10, so we will have to manage with a vending machine raid and cups of tea in the bedroom...

Nite 😴 we will conclude things tomorrow when we get home.

Eurotunnel on the way home!

All good things must come to an end and what a wonderful trip this was. The luxury of having 3 weeks to travel, and see, experience and taste so many different places and food, it’s been such a joy and a privilege! Spending the time with my best mate has made it so very special.

Joan of Arc / Jean d'arc

The Cathedral and main square in Orleans has lots of art and sculpture depicting Jean d'arc.  It was such a lovely day spent here, and the Cathedral spectacular! We had a wonder meal overlooking the square and Joan of Arc statue, a fabulous way to spend the last evening of our European extravaganza!https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1kYFSZ6nLp5o_jnD2yfa0kgD_qpHNQoWvhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1C32D9f5jz3zfj08_K18M4CovKtYPl4Qm

Saturday 31 August 2024

Orleans, our last staging post on the trip.

Some views from our hotel room, at the Cathedral and in the main square.

I am sure we will come back to explore more.

Lazy last day in Thiat

Today we went …… nowhere!

We stayed at the gite, and just strolled down to the local bar for lunch, spot of laundry and a good book,  chatting to friends, laying in the sun - a quiet day in prep for the journey tomorrow to Orleans then to the tunnel on Sunday, nearing the end of our European extravaganza now!

Friday 30 August 2024

In prep for the Party!

The reason we are in Thiat with friends is it is Bernadette’s 60th - Her family have beautifully decorated the table for her celebration!

A great party, kazoo music, lots of champagne and laughter! Ian and I went to bed a little earlier than some who continued to drink a whole bottle of port!
